Mineral museum, Freiberg
Design Project in the 1st semester
Consultant : Prof.Michael Rohde
Tranparent mineral exhibition
Translucent mineral exhibition
This museum is one of the most important mineral museum with around 80,000 pieces of minerals collection located in Freiberg, Germany in the old castle, Freundstein, built since the Renessainte period. In 2003, museum is started to construct and will be opened in 2008
Design concept :
We decided to show the minerals in differnet ways depend on the transmission of minerals : opaque, translucent, transparent
Zoning :
devide the exhibition into three areas depends on the difference of transmission :
- Opaque mineral exhibition -1st floor
- Translucent mineral exhibition - 2nd-3rd floor
- Transparent mineral exhibition - 4th-5th floor
How to show the minerals
- Opaque mineral - show the sparkling of minerals by integrated light in the showcase
- Translucent mineral - accent light with medium beam and show the colors by using fibre optic under the minerals
- Transparent mineral - accent light with narrow beam to create the sharp shadow
How to display the minerals
Deep colour minerals - white background
Bright colour minerals - dark background

Stadt und Licht workshop
2nd semester workshop
5-8 March 2007
Symposium "Stadt und Licht"
Markt im Licht
Arnsberg-Neheim, Germany
Light Installation
This workshop is the opportunity for MALD students to work with students from other universities, Bauhaus University and TU Ilmenau. And our task is to design the lighting for Church & Market square.
Design concept :
Create the connection between the past and the present
Church represents the past. Lighting the church, we create the sequence of the light intensity by seperate the layers of the building. highlighting most at the top part, the tower, and becoming darker at the lower parts.we also emphasize the important architectural parts, stainedglass window, by glowing light from inside.
Market square represents the present and modern time. We create the cool white light cubes located by following the existing grid floor pattern. These boxes are used as the seats for meeting place, like being in the modern time and looking back to the past. The boxes are adjustable by using the railing system depend on the occasions.

Neuruppin workshop
10-14 December, 2006
Neuruppin, Germany
sponsored by ELDA+ (European designers' association)
Consultant : Prof. Michael Rohde

This workshop is the chance to work for design concept and light installation in a small city in the north-eastern of Germany, Neuruppin. Our task is to make the design concept and light installation which is devided into 3 parts :
- Gymnasium facade lighting
- Museum facade lighting
- Plaza and pedestrian walk way : linkage between the gymnasium and museum
I participated in the first group, Gymnasium facade lighting. Gymnasium is a very important educational building relating to the history of the city rebuilt period after burning down. This building is situated in the main market square that allow people to see obviously.
Our idea is to enhance the follwing important architectural parts:
- Uplighting the main entrance - HIT floodlight with sculpture lens
- Uplighting the pediments and building base - Linear luminaires (xenon lamp)
- Accent lighting and inside uplighting the bell tower - HIT floodlight/spotlight
- Glowing light from windows - fluorescent luminaires (with amber color filter for some windows) and cover the windows with the translucent papers
